About the Grand Basset Griffon Vendeen

The Grand Basset Griffon Vendeen is one of those breeds that earns devoted fans the moment people discover them. Originating in the Vendée region of France, these wiry, energetic hounds were built for all-day hunting through dense terrain, and that tireless drive is very much still present in every GBGV you meet today. They are pack dogs at heart, which means they tend to get along beautifully with other dogs and bring a social, good-natured energy to the household. That independence that makes them such effective scenthounds also means training requires patience and a sense of humor. They are not a breed that blindly follows orders, they are a breed that thinks things through on their own terms. Owners who love them genuinely love that about them. With a long wiry coat, expressive eyes, and a personality that is equal parts clown and determined hunter, the GBGV is rare in North America but deeply cherished by those lucky enough to share their life with one. This collection celebrates that bond.
