The breed was refined over centuries and the Miniature variety was developed to create a smaller companion version while maintaining the intelligence and athleticism of the Standard.

Fun Facts

  • Poodles are the second most intelligent dog breed after Border Collies
  • The curly coat is hypoallergenic and sheds minimally, making them ideal for allergy sufferers
  • Miniature Poodles were historically given elaborate haircuts for water retrieving, with pom-poms left on joints for warmth
  • Poodles have been used as circus performers and continue to excel in agility and obedience competitions
  • The breed's name comes from the German word 'Pudelhund' meaning 'splash dog'
